Last Will for Matthew

I Matthew Crumpler of the
County of Isle of Wight and
the State of Virginia being
of sound mind and perfect
memory do make and
ordain this my last will and
testament in manner and
form following, to wit.  I
leave to my loving wife
Mourning Crumpler after
paying all my just debts,
my plantation and all the
balance of any estate
during her single life, and
at her decease I give said
plantation to be divided at
an invalount tree that
stands in the field; from D.
Roberts line, to J. Hall line,
giving the house part
joining Jeffrey Edwards to
Joseph B. Crumpler and the
other part to Jonathan
Crumpler, and if either of
my sons die without a
lawful heir then the other
above named to heir the
whole of the plantation
above named, but I do
reserve My three daughters
to wit Lydia, Mary L. and
Caroline Crumpler their
single life on the said
plantation,  It After my wife
Mourning Crumpler died.  I
then give the rest of my
estate as follows to wit, it.  I
give my son Jonathan
Crumpler fifty cents in
cash.  It I give my daughter
Caty Johnson the sum of
fifty cents.  It, I give my
daughter Nancy Johnson
the sum of fifty cents.  It I
give my daughter Tempy
Crumpler the sum of  fifty
cents in cash.  It I give my
son Matthew Crumpler on
dark face steer,  It I give my
son Joseph B. Crumpler on
white face steer.  It And all
the rest and residence of my
estate to be equally divided
between my three
daughters’ Lydia, Mary,
Caroline Crumpler.

Their infant daughter died June 17, 1856 and Jamima died 11
days later.

Occupation:  mechanic
1850 census list his occupation as a farmer.  He came to
Chuckatuck from Southhampton County near Ivor.
